I've overcome the technical difficulties, and I've done a little work on the site. You can now get to a page with BONUS ARTWORK (right now just one sketch, but that'll change--and I have more I *could* put up) from the LINKS page. Yes, that's a little confusing, but it'll do for now. Just get used to that and you'll do fine.
I've had some trouble with the script for the next part of the story. As those who read today's comic will notice, things are about to pick up a bit, but my original script did not do justice to the ideas I had. I've had to rewrite the whole thing.
Luckily for you, the reader, that means you get a fun new character in Crabby Gene. He's not terribly important, but he's there, and he's going to be in the next few comics. If I like him enough, I might bring him back again, so you probably don't need to worry about him getting killed off anytime soon.
Note that the name, Crabby Gene, is a play on the fact that he sells seafood (including crabs) and an old Peanuts comic, in which Lucy complains that she's so crabby all the time because she has "crabby genes."
Don't these old, grizzled fisherman types usually have stories to tell? This one does, and you can bet you're going to be getting that story soon. And that will kick off a whole new can of worms, which will lead us all into the main plot of the comic. And that will lead us to the next two story arcs, which I already have planned out. Those should include at least two important new characters (one connected to Percy and one connected to Amelia, for those of you who want teasers).
Hold on tight, dear readers. Things are going to get bumpy.

The story is progressing nicely. I hope to have next week all filled out, though I might start spacing the comics out a little more. The reason for this is that I am going on vacation at the beginning of July, and I want to have some comics appearing automatically while I'm gone. Building up a buffer of comics will not be easy to do under my current schedule, so just expect three or four comics per week until then.
Content-wise, the good stuff is one the way. It appears I am over the technical problems formerly plaguing the scanning process, and while uploading comics is still a little buggy, it's not as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago.
I plan to overhaul the appearance of the site in the near future, so be ready for some drastic changes for the better. I might even use a slightly different art style for the overhaul. I do all of the regular art in colored pencil with an ink outline, but I will likely use Photoshop for the site design. Then you'll see why I *don't* use Photoshop for regular comics, aside from time issues.
Readers, feel free to comment on my art or on the plot or on anything else.
Happy reading!

Autokeen just automatically posted five of the last six days worth of comics. Unfortunately, it then duplicated the comic for 5/14 for today's entry.
This means you'll just have to deal with it and wait until tomorrow for the next comic. The technical issues are mostly ironed out, though, so you'll be getting regular comics again as long as the system doesn't screw up anymore. Plus, if it does screw up, I know how to fix it now, so that'll only be a temporary delay.
Enjoy your FIVE new comics today, and get ready for tomorrow's. I plan to draw some more updates over the next few days, and I'll scan them tomorrow or Monday, so next week will be a good comic week. This is especially true because the story is starting to pick up steam.
The first half of the first chapter, which stretches from everyone's arrival on campus to the announcement of the trip to Galveston, is mostly a muddy reflection of what it's really like going through Orientation Week at Rice University. This is intentional. Starting with Galveston, though, things are going to change, and they're going to change quickly. The real story is about to begin. Hang on to your collective metaphorical hat, folks.

Hi, fans.
I had to take a quick break from posting in order to take the Graduate Record Exam. While I worried that I might have to spend another month studying to take it again, I ended up doing quite well on my first try, so I'm going to keep the scores I have. You know what that means? It means I get more time to draw comics!
In any case, I have two new comics ready, one for today (5/5/2007) and one for tomorrow. Tomorrow's comic continues today's, as Alice continues to investigate the mysterious, scary book store.
For those wondering, I only chose this username for my comic journal because "Liddell" was already taken, so please do not confuse me with the character in the story. My real name is not Alice, and the character in the story is not based on me.
However, Alice Taniyama will make a great pen name for now.
Stay tuned for more exciting episodes of <i>Liddell</i>.

Welcome, readers! The purpose of this journal is to keep everyone updated on the latest <i>Liddell</i> news. Liddell is, of course, my webcomic. You can read it <a href=" http://liddell.comicgenesis.com" >here</a>. Please do that now if you haven't already. The next strip is scanned and will be up tomorrow. In the meantime, please enjoy the archives. I have about a month's worth of comics posted as of today, with more on the way. However, I have taken a temporary break from drawing while I apply for graduate school. Soon after that, I will be on a three comic per week schedule. I know I had one per day at the start of the strip, but that was because the comics didn't take very long to draw back then. A quick check of the archives will reveal that I did not generally draw backgrounds in the early strips. Now I do, and even when they are simple, I still have to color them. That takes time. The early comics took about an hour or two each. Current comics take three to five hours, depending on how many complex figures I have to include. The new comic is the second to last in the scavenger hunt mini-arc. There will be just a couple more mini-arcs before I move to the exciting finale I have planned for the end of Chapter 1. That will be a treat, though I am nervous about a couple of the drawings. One in particular needs to be really impressive if I want to get the right effect for the entire story. Tags: news
